Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions often asked, but if you can't find the answer to something you would like to know then please use the form to the right or visit the contact page to get in touch.

How long will a session last?

Your first session may last up to 2 hours because we need to go through your medical, sport, injury history and understand what you would like to achieve by going through the sessions. Typically your sessions after this will be 1.5 hours.

Is there somewhere to park?

Yes, you are coming to a residential address so you can park on our driveway or street and there is no charge.

What shall I wear?

I will be working with you in your underwear. I suggest you chose something comfortable. Ladies tend to wear normal bra, and pants or short shorts. Gents normally briefs, boxer shorts or again short shorts.

Are the sessions like receiving massage?

The work is hands on yes but it is different to massage. I use my hands in a slow, precise way along certain muscle pathways called Anatomy Trains.  The aim is to even out muscle tension and contractures restoring connective tissue flexibility.  I will also ask you to move whenever possible as this enhances the effectiveness of the technique.

How often should I come for treatment?

Most patients come for sessions fortnightly. Some do come weekly for chronic problems. If you are coming for the twelve sessions, I would recommend leaving no longer that two weeks between each deep session.

Will I have any homework to do in-between sessions?

Your homework between sessions is to explore the changes happening in your body. Make a note of how it feels and its changes over the two weeks before I see you next.  I may give you additional stretches to do.

Can I do Pilates, Yoga and exercise between sessions?

Yes any movement is extremely good for integrating the changes into your body.  For those of you are competing athletes, you do need to give your body 24-48 hours to change before working it too hard.

Can I see other therapists whilst going through the series?

If you are coming to see me to go through the twelve series I would suggest that you only see therapists who do light work. Receiving any deep tissue massage whilst going through the series may interfere with the structured change KMI is evoking.

Acupuncture is excellent to get the energetic body changing with the physical body and works very well along side KMI.

If you are currently seeing a Physiotherapist for a movement re-education, this is very good. Please share with them that you are going through a Structural Integration series.

Osteopathic and Chiropractic treatment is ok but again please share with your practitioner that you are going through a Structural Integration series.

Low level Laser therapy is also excellent for stimulating cell change and repair within tissue and very much helps soften scar tissue speeding up the Structural Integration process.

I am happy to share your notes with other therapists if you would like me to.

I would love to come for KMI sessions but Structural Balance® is too far away from me. Are there any other practitioners closer to me?

Yes there are a growing number of graduates of KMI. Please click here to find others nearer you.

There is also a Structural Integration Directory listing many practitioners who have trained at different schools.  Click here
